Legendary Somalis
This page is dedicated to the origins of our lovely Somalis. In the photos to follow, I hope to bring to life some of the influential cats of their time and future generations. Some of these cats will be the Abyssinians that brought with them the longhair gene. I have studied the pedigrees of Abys and Somalis almost from the first time I sat down and wondered who those cats were and what they looked like. I have been lucky in my friends, many also shared the same passion and taught me a very great deal. My thanks to Sheila Bergh (formerly Bowers) of Rainkey Cattery, Patti and Bob Taylor of Udjat Abyssinians. Both Patti and Sheila taught me how to refine my eye, to know what I was seeing and often where a certain feature came from. Grateful thanks to everyone who has ever sent me a pedigree or filled in a birth date. Thanks also to Carla Bizzell for allowing me to use GC Mabuhay's Lone Star, he has always reminded me of GC Rainkey's Windrider who was his great grandfather, not only is Carla an unselfish breeder, she is a good friend. Thanks to all who have or will provide me with photos and stories for this page.
If any of you have cats you would like to see on this page, please e-mail me at the address at the bottom of the page. What catteries would you like to see represented here? I will be combing records of cats as I come across them. I am always looking for yearbooks, studbooks and articles and would appreciate any you might come across or want to part with, make me a copy of or share in some manner. I think I will quit talking now and get on with it. Sorry if the photos take awhile to load, I tried to make them as compact as possible without losing too much detail. I hope you enjoy them. To see a photo and a pedigree (as soon as I get them all loaded) simply click on the PAW next to the name.
